From June 2014 until December 2015, I collaborated with a group of film students from a variety of universities to produce an independent short film, Vandals. The film is a narrative critique of the ever-increasing college tuition prices, and how this severely affects young adults from achieving their dreams. It follows a story of a young woman’s personal journey maneuvering the financial difficulties her family faces in light of college acceptances.
To raise money to produce the film, I worked with the director, Samantha Son-Dokidis, to manage a fundraiser campaign on Indiegogo.com. Thanks to extensive networking and promotion, we were able to exceed our goal of $3,000 in less than a month of launching the fundraiser campaign. With this support, we were able to hire actors, rent equipment and purchase costumes and props.
Every day during the production process the director and I posted updates to Facebook to inform our followers and supporters about the film’s progress. We included pictures from behind the scenes production and spotlights of the contributors. Our posts were oftentimes shared by our followers, and our official debut of the film on Facebook garnered about 3,000 views.
The final film is hosted on Vimeo and can be viewed at the following link:
